March's Home Programme events brought people together to share knowledge in lots of different ways, covering poetry, foraged greens and community matchmaking! Here's what we got up to last month:
💞 Our Farmer's Market stall saw us turn matchmaker for the day, inspired by skill sharing processes like the 'Offers and Needs Market', and our community hub Square Deal. We asked folk to share requests and asks, skills and resources with us, and began to link them up - car owners with people needing lifts, Excel whizzes with people needing a bit of accounting help, to name a couple! This initiative will continue to grow, so if you've got something you need help with or that you can support, get in touch
📚 At Friday Lunch, Richard Raggett joined us for a thought-provoking talk focused on epic poems and their lasting emotional power, before Magdalena Blazusiak shared her research on ways to centre people's health and wellbeing in the context of retrofitting homes
🐣 Food Chain last month was an epic Italian Easter feast, as Beatrice Fettes showed us how to make three easy and tasty courses: taking advantage of the first foraging bounty of the year for a wild garlic lasagne, followed by an Easter pie and a deliciously decadent gateau

📣 One week left to apply 📣
There's just one week until the deadline for our 2025 Publics Residency with Mondriaan Fonds. Deadline: Thursday 21 March, 4pm CEST.
This funded 3-month residency with Deveron Projects offers artists based in the Netherlands the opportunity to further their practice and make new connections in their work. Living and working in rural north-east Scotland, the artist will become a part of the communities and wider ecologies of Huntly and the surrounding landscape. Through an intensive period of mutual learning, making and conversation with others, they will be supported to collaborate, experiment and expand their practice, developing new work to share or present at the end of the residency period.

February was another packed month across our Home Programme, as we shared food, ideas and experiences at our regular series of community events. Here's some of the things we got up to:
🎪 We brought our willow wattle garden shelter out into Huntly Square for the February Farmer's Market, with Christine Steiner joining us to share the project her TOADS group have been involved with in the Brander Garden
🐟 Our Friday Lunch talks featured the Atlantic Salmon Trust introducing Project Deveron, an initiative to protect the River Deveron's wild salmon population and bring improvements to wider biodiversity and climate resilience, followed by artist Catherine Whiteman generously sharing her text art and demonstrating how to make prints with an Adana 5x3 letterpress - if you'd like to use this, get in touch!
🍲 February's Food Chain cookery workshop saw us learning to make a classic Polish dish with a vegetarian twist, when our Programme Coordinator Misa brought along a recipe for bigos, a hearty winter stew with sauerkraut, plums and smoked tofu

Last weekend we said goodbye to Liangshu Zuo, who joined us on a student placement from Edinburgh College of Art.
Over the course of the two week placement, Liangshu got involved in lots of different aspects of our work: she researched past projects in our archive and socially engaged art library, explored our Town Collection of artworks around Huntly, and helped plan and run events including our Home Programme and the Winter Warmer in the Brander Garden.
Thanks for all your energy, thoughtful questions and enthusiasm Liangshu! We hope to welcome you back to Huntly again soon ✨

Our Publics Residency in partnership with @mondriaanfonds is open for applications from Netherlands-based artists.
This opportunity offers an artist based in the Netherlands a funded 3-month residency with Deveron Projects in 2025, to further their practice and make new connections in their work. Living and working in rural north-east Scotland, the artist will become a part of the communities and wider ecologies of Huntly and the surrounding landscape. Through an intensive period of mutual learning, making and conversation with others, they will be supported to collaborate, experiment and expand their practice, developing new work to share or present at the end of the residency period.
Deadline: Thursday 21 March, 16:00 CEST / 22:00 AST Fee: €8.563. Travel, living expenses and visa costs paid by the artist. Duration: 3 months, May - August 2025 Support provided: live/work space accommodation, production budget, small UK travel budget and access support. Artists are welcome to travel with family or friends within the limitations of the Artists' House accommodation.

This summer Deveron Projects will be just one of two Scottish organisations welcoming Art Road Trip, part of the National Gallery's 200th year anniversary celebrations 💥
Art Road Trip is a mobile art studio that will be touring the UK in 2024, bringing an insight into the National Gallery to 24 different communities across 18 towns and cities, including Huntly!
Home to the national collection of Western European paintings from the 13th to the 19th century, the National Gallery is located on Trafalgar Square in London. In exploring and connecting with the national collection here in Huntly, we are starting from a place of asking what connections does the collection hold with our town and Aberdeenshire more widely? (How) are we represented? Are these representations accurate and what / whose stories do they tell?
To start to explore these questions, we will be working with the National Gallery and an artist in residence to develop a programme of workshops, events and artworks collaboratively with communities here in Huntly to share in August when Art Road Trip arrives in Huntly. We will be sharing more information soon, and inviting you to get involved in shaping the programme.

We’re glad to share that artist @margherita.soldati will be joining us from Amsterdam in May 2024 for our new partnership residency with @mondriaanfonds .
Margherita’s artistic practice sits at the crossovers between art and wellbeing. She works collaboratively with scientists, healthcare workers and ecologists to make installations, sculptures and performances, drawing on research and academic knowledge to create connections; between materials and our senses, our bodies and the environment. Her work is bodily, textural, sensory, and invites us to experience our bodies and their surroundings in new ways.
Whilst on residency here in Huntly, Margherita will be exploring soil, its microbes and networks, to build connections between where and how food is grown, and how it is received by our bodies. She would like to meet environmental scientists, landworkers, and people who have an interest in soil, food production, food preparation and health, to collaboratively explore how the health of our soil impacts our general health and wellbeing. If this sounds like you, please get in touch!
There will be lots of ways to get involved in Margherita’s project from May – July 2024. At this point, we know this will include Home Programme events (Friday Lunch, Food Chain, Farmers’ Market), but other possibilities include workshops experimenting with soil and growing food, talks and walks, and more!
